In 2004, PCCM launched a partnership with ASM to run a week-long "Materials Camp" for high school teachers. Over the past four years, over 120 teachers have been trained to teach materials science in local schools. In follow-up evaluations and refresher sessions, teachers report in using this knowledge in their classrooms.
These camps, plus PCCM's Princeton University Materials Academy (P.U.M.A.) and Research Experience for Teachers (RET) programs, have resulted in a for-credit materials science curriculum in local high schools. A full-year materials science course is now taught at Middlesex High School, and courses are being developed at Perkiomen School, East Brunswick High School and Hudson County School of Technology.
