IRG 2: Holographic Displays Fabricated with Illumination of Light

USM_IRG_2_Nugget_2_image.jpg

Holographic polymer dispersed liquid crystals are fabricated with the illumination of a laser light. The phase separated morphology of H-PDLC films allows the refractive index modulation within the matrix. Due to presence of LC in the polymer, H-PDLC films are switchable by the applied external field which makes them candidates for display, fiber optics, remote sensing applications. The physical and mechanical properties of several thiol-ene based polymers and their mixtures with the liquid crystal. Electro-optic properties can be manipulated by changing the monomer chemical structures and the glass transition temperature of the final film.
