MRSEC Research Experiences for Undergraduates Program

The MRSEC Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program provides summer undergraduate research opportunities in science and engineering. The University of Minnesota MRSEC will provide up to 25 full-time summer research positions to undergraduate students through the REU program during the summer of 2025.

WHO CAN APPLY:

This program is open to ALL undergraduate students in all science and engineering majors*, including (but not limited to):

  • Chemical engineering

  • Chemistry

  • Electrical engineering

  • Materials science

  • Mechanical engineering

  • Physics

Underrepresented and multicultural students are strongly encouraged to apply, including (but not limited to):

  • American Indian or Alaskan Native

  • Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander

PROGRAM DETAILS:

Dates

  • June 2 – August 8, 2025 (10 weeks)

  • Full-time commitment to extensive lab work

  • Accommodations can be made for semesters ending later than 6/2

  • Summer Undergraduate Research Expo: August 7, 2025

Stipend and housing

  • $6000 stipend

  • Housing and meals provided

  • Travel reimbursement up to $500

  • $1000 research supply fund

  • Travel grants available to present research at national conference
