Molecular Biomimetics @ University of Washington

Research Fields: |

By merging recent advances in molecular biology, bioinformatics, and genetics with state-of-the-art technology from physical science, the goal of GEMSEC at University of Washington is to shift the biomimetic materials science paradigm from imitating Nature to designing and genetically engineering peptide-based molecular material systems. Our IRG focuses on resarch to select, genetically tailor, and bioinformatically design material-binding peptides. These peptides are then conjugated with biomacromolecules, viruses, cells, and synthetic molecules to synthesize, morphogenize and assemble functional material systems for utility in medicine and practical technology.
