Postdoctoral Postion in Science/Engineering Education

Postdoctoral position available in a dynamic science/engineering education group associated with the NSF-supported Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC) on Nanostructured Interfaces at the University of Wisconsin – Madison (UW). The Interdisciplinary Education Group of the UW MRSEC develops cutting-edge instructional materials on the topics of solid-state chemistry, materials science, nanoscale engineering, and nanotechnology. Examples of products and resources can be seen at http://www.mrsec.wisc.edu/nano.

The postdoctoral position available will specifically focus on informal and K-12 education and on managing our NSF-funded Internships in Public Science Education (IPSE) program. The IPSE program emphasizes exhibit development, and coordination of this program involves supervision of several graduate and undergraduate student interns, development of exhibits and programs, and opportunities to conduct presentations for general and educator audiences. This position also facilitates interaction of the MRSEC and IPSE efforts with the Nanoscale Informal Science Education (NISE) Network, a national network of science museums and other informal science venues dedicated to sharing nanotechnology with the public. Additionally, opportunities are available (if interested) for supervising undergraduate research and research experiences for K-12 teachers.

A doctorate in engineering, physics, or chemistry is required, as are excellent interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication skills, and a strong interest in science and technology education. The position involves significant personnel management responsibilities, mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students, collaboration with a wide range of educators in formal and informal settings, and development of materials for web dissemination. Contingent upon funding, this position is initially for one year (second year possible), with a start date in summer/early fall 2007.

Interested individuals should send a cover letter and CV to Greta Zenner (gmzenner@wisc.edu) and Prof. Wendy Crone (crone@engr.wisc.edu). For assurance of full consideration of your application, it should be received no later than May 18, 2007.
