American Chemical Society

The ACS provides a multitude of information, educational, financial, technical and professional opportunities. The Society's 33 technical divisions cover the entire spectrum of the chemical world and the 189 Local Sections sponsor local events and meetings throughout the year.

American Physical Society

Since its formation in 1899, the American Physical Society has dedicated itself to the advancement and diffusion of the knowledge of physics. This knowledge has been a critical ingredient of the major advances of the twentieth century and is playing a dominant role in preparing for the next century.

AVS Science & Technology Society

AVS is a volunteer-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing science and technology related to thin films, microelectronics, nanostructures, processing, surfaces, and vacuum and to providing a variety of relevant educational opportunities to meet the growing needs of industry.

Beyond Discovery

From The Office on Public Understanding of Science. The Path from Research to Human Benefit is a series of articles that trace the origins of important recent technological and medical advances. Each story reveals the crucial role played by basic science, the applications of which could not have been anticipated at the time the original research was conducted.

Federation of Materials Societies (FMS)

The Federation of Materials Societies (FMS) is an umbrella organization whose member societies and affiliates represent the professional societies, universities and National Research Council organizations which are involved with materials science, engineering and technology. FMS constituent societies have more than 700,000 individual members.

A Foundation for the 21st Century

This document is actually called: "National Science Board Commission on the Future of the National Science Foundation. A Foundation for the 21st Century: A Progressive Framework for the National Science Foundation"

Gordon Research Conferences

The Gordon Research Conferences provide an international forum for the presentation and discussion of frontier research in the biological, chemical and physical sciences, and their related technologies. GRC is a non-profit organization managed by and for the benefit of the scientific community. Small meetings of approximately 100 researchers are held every year. Many have a materials focus.

Materials Research Society (MRS)

The Materials Research Society is a non-profit organization which brings together scientists, engineers and research managers from industry, government, academia and research laboratories to share findings in the research and development of new materials of technological importance.

NSF - National Science Foundation

The National Science Foundation is an independent U.S. government agency responsible for promoting science and engineering through programs that invest over $3.3 billion per year in almost 20,000 research and education projects in science and engineering.

NSF/DMR/MRSEC

Materials Research Science and Engineering Centers are supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to undertake materials research of scope and complexity that would not be feasible under traditional funding of individual research projects.
