Materials Facilities @ Cornell University

Used for: | Surface Preparation/ Characterization | Thin Film Fabrication and Characterization | Materials Processing/ Preparation | Spectroscopy | Coatings/Film Fabrication | Optical Microscopy | Scanning Probe Microscopy | Thermal/ Mechanical Analysis | CVD | Mechanical Testing | Ceramics | Polymer Processing |

The Materials Facility is a multi-function and multi-purpose Research Support Facility providing a wide spectrum of services and apparatus for materials testing, preparation, and characterization.

It is the philosophy of the facility to have close interaction between staff and users. Hands-on involvement of students is stressed at the expense of wear and tear on the equipment and efficiency. This is done in the conviction that new and innovative solutions to research problems and effective graduate education require such an approach.

Instruments in this facility include:

Veeco Dimension 3100 Scanning Probe Microscope
ADE Phase-Shift MicroAXM-100HR Non-Contact Surface Profiler
Leitz Laborlux 12hl Optical Microscope
Tencor Alpha Step 500 Surface Profiler
Bio-Rad 1024 Confocal / Multiphoton Microscope
Mattson Model 5020 FTIR Spectrometer
Raman XY Spectrometer
and more

The CCMR facilities are run by expert staff who provide training and technical assistance. We welcome outside users from both industry and academia. Potential users are encouraged to contact us by e-mail or visit the facility on the web.
