The MRSEC at Carnegie Mellon University is hosting a special camp to introduce Pittsburgh Area Science Teachers (high school and middle school) to the field of Materials Science.

2010 ASM Materials Camp for Teachers
Doherty Hall, Carnegie Mellon University
Pittsburgh, PA
June 21st - 25th,  2010

This FREE week-long, hands-on, lab-based camp shows teachers how to use applied science and engineering techniques in the classroom. It is a refresher of core science principles and a way to make these principles relevant to students. At a time when many school budgets are tight, this camp will show you new ways to make science and math fun -- for little or no cost!  Participants will engage in hands-on experiments accentuated with lectures and demonstrations on topics such as properties of metals and alloys and synthetic polymers.  The program includes a daily lunch and supplies and a field trip to a local research center. Participants will also be able to take home a detailed workbook for future use in their classroom.

Teachers that participate will receive 40 hours of continuing education credit.  More information is also on our website: http://mimp.materials.cmu.edu/hst/workshops.html.
